Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called on Wednesday for efforts from non-CPC members to pool their strength and contribute their wisdom to promoting Chinese modernization.
Xi, who is also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark during a gathering at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing attended by representatives of non-CPC political parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce as well as public figures without party affiliation and other members of the united front.
On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, Xi extended his sincere greetings and best wishes to the participants on the upcoming Lunar New Year, which falls on Saturday.
Referring to the socioeconomic progress made by the nation in the past year, he said that all the achievements were attributed to the strong leadership of the CPC as well as the hard work of people from all walks of life, including those from China's eight non-Communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as public figures without party affiliation.
Xi commended the efforts made by the non-CPC parties in strengthening multiparty cooperation and contributing their suggestions and opinions in advancing Chinese modernization.
The All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce has actively cooperated with relevant departments to implement policies in order to promote the high-quality development of the private economy, and has done a lot of work to promote the healthy development of the nonpublic economy, he added.
Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and is a crucial year for achieving the goals and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Xi said that it is necessary to continue to consolidate and enhance the positive momentum of economic recovery and take solid steps to promote Chinese modernization.
Xi called on the non-CPC members to have firm confidence in and uphold, develop and improve China's new type of political party system.
He underlined the need to effectively improve the quality of multiparty consultation, continuously improve the mechanism by contributing suggestions and opinions about national affairs, and carry out democratic supervision in an orderly manner to enhance the efficiency of China's new type of political party system.
Xi also expressed his hope that the non-CPC parties would continue to conduct in-depth research centering on the major strategic tasks and provide more targeted suggestions.
The All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce should guide people involved in the private economy to have firm confidence in development and jointly promote a positive outlook for the Chinese economy, he added.
